How I planned an interactive ADVENT for Christmas 2022

How I planned an interactive ADVENT for Christmas 2022

Advent countdowns are a beloved holiday tradition for many people around the world. They provide a fun and interactive way to get into the holiday spirit and build excitement for the big day.

There are many different ways to do an advent countdown, but the most common method is to use a calendar with small doors or windows that are opened each day to reveal a treat or activity. These can range from chocolate or sweets, to small toys or trinkets, to festive activities like watching a holiday movie or making cookies.

Advent countdowns can be a great way to spend quality time with family and friends, and can also be a way to add a touch of magic and excitement to the holiday season.

This year I was inspired to DIY a "life size" advent box where I added a trinket each day for the countdown.  Several of them were intentional to be incorporated with our December experience gifts for the kids.

Whether you prefer a physical calendar with treats or a digital one with activities, an advent countdown is a fun and festive way to get into the holiday spirit.

We wrote Christmas letters to soldiers.

Sleep masks and puzzles for upcoming road trips:)

Family movie nights.

Every year we add ornaments to our tree that represent things that happened during the year.

Chocolate that looks like gold is always a hit with middle schoolers!

I knew there would be spirit week during school so I added items for those dress up days leading up to holiday break.

I surprised them with a meet and greet experience with the Grinch and this is how I told them:)

Having triplets can be challenging to get one on one time.  Also, it's important to us to teach our kids to think of others.  We started a tradition in our home years ago where the kids open their gifts from their siblings first.  I love watching them think of the other and their interests while shopping.  One of the advents I created these "gift certificates" and planned singleton dates to do their shopping.  We had the best time and it helped me plan our shopping dates before my ADHD time blindness could happen!

Bells and yo-yos

Holiday socks (these were a top 3 fav)

Holiday stickers

Chapstick--again, knowing we would be travelling over holiday and would need this anyway

Whether you prefer a physical calendar with treats or a digital one with activities, an advent countdown is a fun and festive way to get into the holiday spirit. I hope this has been an inspiration to you and yours.  Merry Christmas!

xoxo
